Improving Teacher Quality Grants

The Washington State Higher Education Improving Teacher Quality Grant program provides partnership grants for professional development projects that improve teaching and learning in elementary and secondary schools. The Higher Education Coordinating Board administers the program, which the U.S. Dept. of Education pays for in accordance with Title II Part A of the No Child Left Behind Act.

For 2007-08, the board anticipates awarding about $1.1 million to support intensive professional development projects in reading, mathematics, and instructional leadership for teachers, paraprofessionals, and principals.
