Managing State and Federal Grants

The Higher Education Coordinating Board administers several state and federally funded grant programs.

The HECB administers the Improving Teacher Quality Grants program, which is funded by the U.S. Dept. of Education in accordance with Title II Part A of the No Child Left Behind Act. For 2007-08, we anticipate awarding about $1.1 million to support intensive professional development projects.

Through Distinguished Professorships and Graduate Fellowships we help the public four-year colleges and universities recruit and retain outstanding professors and graduate students.

The GEAR UP grant program focuses on preparing many low-income seventh graders for college success by providing intensive tutoring, mentoring, college, and career planning information throughout their middle and high school years.

To help students pay for college, we provide matching grants to community organizations that raise scholarship money through the Community Scholarship Matching Grant program.

And, programs such as Child Care Grants, and the Supplemental College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) make it easier for students to stay in college and graduate.
