Teacher Training Pilot Projects

The Legislature created this competitive grant program to stimulate innovation in the recruitment and training of K-12 teachers and to encourage communities to "grow" their own teachers. The 2003-2005 state operating budget provided $300,000 for competitive grants.

The board awarded 2003-2005 grants to the following four projects:

  • $94,500 to Eastern Washington University in partnership with Spokane Public Schools and Spokane Falls Community College.
  • $74,334 to Highline Community College in partnership with the Federal Way School District
  • $58,235 to Seattle Community College District in partnership with the University of Washington, Western Washington University, and Seattle Public Schools.
  • $72,931 to Tacoma Community College in partnership with Tacoma Public Schools, The Evergreen State College, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, and the Washington State Teachers Recruiting Teachers organization.
