Calculating Financial Need
Example
Assume that your family is expected to pay $5,000 toward college costs.
If you attend a four-year public university in Washington at a cost of
$12,200 per academic year, your financial need would be $7,200.
Cost of Attendance |
$12,200 |
- Expected Family Contribution |
-5,000 |
Your Financial Need |
$7,200 |
However, if instead you decide to attend a private college in Washington
at a cost of $27,200 per academic year, your financial need would be $22,200.
Cost of Attendance |
$27,200 |
- Expected Family Contribution |
-5,000 |
Your Financial Need |
$22,200 |
In each case, the college financial aid office will develop a financial
aid package to meet all or part of your financial need. Your package will
depend on your eligibility and the amount of money available in the various
programs.
